Our Beginnings

History of Minority Vets

MVA was founded in 2017 by Lindsay Church and Katherine Pratt. Church and Pratt first began their work in 2014 through the Husky United Military Veterans where they built a Diversity Committee that celebrated underrepresented groups within the student veteran community at the University of Washington.

Our Mission

To create belonging and advance equity for minority veterans.

Our Principles

Vision & Values

MVA’s vision is a just world that empowers minority veterans and is built on the following fundamental values that we use as our guiding principles for our organization:

01  EquityWe recognize that without true and committed work to creating equity, there is no hope for equality and justice in our community. 02   InclusionWe are a community that represents a spectrum of identities and organization inclusive of veterans of all walks of life and lived experiences. 03  IntersectionalityOur community is built with the understanding that intersectionality contributes to many of our community’s greatest challenges. 04  EducationEducation and development of the minority veteran community is the means for sustaining our organization, our work, and our community. 05  AdvocacyWe recognize that advocacy and representation of the needs, wants, and experiences of our members and community is imperative to changing the landscape of services for those who feel as though they have been forgotten in the veteran community. Our advocacy efforts ensure that the change we are working toward is tangible and lasting.
